Flashback Friday (on a Saturday) (#4) – Almost Famous

26 Jul

Ok, ok, technically it’s Sunday, but the way I see it the day doesn’t change before I’ve been asleep. That’s just how it works in my world.

This song. It’s one of my all-time favourite songs. I was introduced to it through the movie Almost Famous, which I found randomly on the students’ download server – this was back in the days before piracy was a big problem that everyone cared about. The movie it self is good, but the one part of it that I remember the best is this song, and the people in the movie singing it on the bus. It became a staple of all our parties (because I told everyone to watch the movie, and because my friends are awesome they immediately locked on to that same part as the best part of the movie). I’m pretty sure it was the second year of my life as a student, and I still lived at the dorms, so it must have been the early summer of 2002.

Good times.

I recently heard a remix of this song on the radio, and it pissed me off. If you’ve agreed to this, Elton John, I AM SO DISAPPOINTED IN YOU. Bad Elton! BAD ELTON! I shake my fist at you.

Dinosaurs in space!

As those of you who follow me or Twitter and/or Facebook know, I am going to New York in late October/early November to visit a dear friend of mine, and of course, to see the city I’ve dreamed of seeing since FOREVER.

However, I didn’t really have a clear view of what I wanted to see in NY when asked. Faye (my friend) suggested we at least go to the Museum of Natural History, and I googled it at work today (because work was slow and I was so tired of correcting other peoples’ mistakes that I wanted to scream). And, I found that yes, I would indeed very much like to go to this museum, and there are two exhibits I MUST see there: Dinosaurs and space.

Two somewhat different fields of interest, no?

So as I was pondering this curious combination of dinosaurs and space, I suddenly remembered this dream I had once where dinosaurs returned to earth, and someone decided that we should send the T-Rex into space to get rid of it, BUT THEN IT SURVIVED. IN SPACE. I wanted to draw it for you, but then I remembered how absolutely awful my drawing skills are, so I made this collage instead:

T-Rex in Space

If you know where the T-Rex has stolen his quote from, you are automatically cool and we should talk. Hit me up when you’re in the neighbourhood, ok?

The heat goes on and on and on

I love the summer! The summer, I love it! Love the summer, I do!

It’s so warm, so very very warm, and I love it. I wear short(ish) skirts to work every day, and I’m still hot. In the temperature kind of way, just so you know- I leave it for others to tell me I look hot in the other way, I’m no fan of flattering myself.

If you’d like to flatter me though, I’m all for it.

Anyway. Warm. It’s what it is. So warm, in fact, that I have to stay inside quite a bit because the sun gives me a headache if I stay in it for too long. But hopefully it’s all a matter of getting used to it. My skin will never get used to it though, so I’m also somewhat avoiding the sun so as to not look like a piglet, because that’s really not a good look for me. Instead, I depend on moisturisers with a bit of self-tanner in them.

Work. Work is also warm. Luckily, I just moved to a different office so as to have the office next door to my boss’, and it’s on the dark side of the building – it gets no sun. It does, however, have a rather heat reflecting roof right outside it, so it’s not exactly cool in there either, but I know how much worse it could be. So, to help out my almost melting co-workers, I sent someone out yesterday to buy tabletop fans.

Work is also busy. My boss is away, leaving me in charge of the section, which means that I have to deal with stuff I don’t normally deal with. I think I’ve handled it pretty good, but it’s meant that I’ve had to leave some of my normal tasks on the back burner (or, actually, giving them to someone else…). It’s been kinda awesome though- I love the added responsibility, not to mention the diversity. I should make a note to tell my boss this, so she knows. She’s talked about giving some of her tasks over to me, so that she can focus on other areas – I think we’re going to discuss this next week, when she’s back from the first part of her holiday.

I meant for this to be a short post about the heat. We all see how that went. I might do a video blog tomorrow, so stay tuned for that.

Did I mention that I love summer? I do I do I do.

Well hello there, melancholy

Long time no see. You’ve missed me, you say? The feeling isn’t mutual, I’m afraid. Everything in my life has been so good lately, but then that one thing keeps resurfacing and kind of shatters it all, at least for a while, until my mind becomes preoccupied with something else.

And I know, I know. Could I be any more cryptic? It’s just not something I’m comfortable putting out there just yet, so you’ll have to excuse this little ramble. It’ll all make sense eventually, I hope.
